Happy Winter Days at Rainshadow

Hey there, all you wonderful people that have been a part of Rainshadow over the years – what are you up to?? Cooking hearty meals and gathering with friends and family, I hope! That’s definitely what we’re doing out here at the farm. Cookie decorating tonight, bonfire tomorrow night, Tamales on Tuesday, Ham and White Elephant on Christmas. Yup, gather and eat, gather and eat.

Our perennial staff is tough and fun loving. Maggie and Rae take all the extra time to care for the critters. Nat and I are chipping away at the crop plan. Mel is cleaning seeds and counting them into their packets. Tristan is recovering from knee surgery and showing off the new wearables. Al is creating lists and checking them twice. Rae got the shrub in a bottle, woot woot!! Talk about a long time coming. Momo has been processing dahlia tubers. Looks to me like we could be a dahlia farm if we wanted. Flowers are really all that you need, right?

Just kidding, the veg and meats and grains and milk and eggs are all getting charted out. We map the food journey now and then work our way through the adventure over the course of the year. It’s a beautiful seasonal cycle and this time of year is when the excitement really builds.

If you’re looking for an outing, we’re open all winter long. Fridays from 11-5 and Saturdays from 9-3. The self-guided farm tour is still fun in the Winter. Use our farm map to explore at your own pace and discover informational signs along the way that share insights into our fields, animals, and sustainable farming practices. Don’t forget to say hi to our friendly farm mascot, Biddy the donkey. The turkeys, chickens, dogs, and cows are all happy for visitors in the winter. If it snows you could bring your cross country skis!

Big love to all ya’ll out there, remembering whats important this time of year and always. Take a break, have a hug, and COOK!
