Welcome to May!

This is the month when everything wakes up. Things are getting real out here on the farm. It’s one of the busiest times of the year. Our apprentices arrived last week, seeds are germinated and ready to head out to the big field, calves are running around the pastures, and market season is starting up. Honestly, what doesn’t wake up in May? Not much. Everything comes alive.

We do too. Winter treated us well. It gave us time to rest, play, plan, and reset. Now the bases are loaded and we’re ready to swing. It’s shaping up to be a beautiful season, and we’re so excited to have you along for it.

May is also a great time to start thinking about preservation. Those of you who were with us through winter know that it’s not exactly the queen of variety. Summer, on the other hand, is overflowing with it. Putting a little food away during the abundance of summer makes winter meals so much better.

Some things to keep an eye out for this season:

  • Tomatoes

  • Cucumbers

  • Herbs

  • Tomatillos

  • Peas

  • Beans

  • Cauliflower

  • Broccoli

Really, anything you love and wish you could enjoy longer than the short window it’s around. When we have big abundance of something, we’ll be sure to give you a heads up so you can stock up if you want to preserve it.

Here’s to the start of a busy, beautiful season.
