The State of The River
You can imagine that fishing in this smoke is less than pleasant. Beyond the haze that hangs over the river, the wildfires have created another challenge: debris. Trees, branches, and all kinds of floating obstacles are making their way downstream, turning every day on the water into a bit of an obstacle course.
Joe described watching entire trees drift past as he fished. It’s not exactly ideal. The fish are there, but catching them safely takes patience, experience, and caution. As always, we’re grateful that Joe is willing to brave the elements to bring fresh fish to the farm whenever he can.
A quick heads-up: this will be our last delivery of fresh fish for the next two weeks. If you’ve been thinking about picking some up, now’s the time! We’ll keep our freezers well stocked with frozen fish, so don’t worry—we won’t be completely out. Fresh may be taking a short break, but there will still be plenty of beautiful fish available.
This week’s catch:
- Chinook Salmon
- Steelhead
- Salmon Collars
- Salmon Spines & Head Packages
Chinook Salmon
Known as the king of Pacific salmon, Chinook is prized for its rich flavor, buttery texture, and high omega-3 content.
Steelhead
Often mistaken for salmon, steelhead are ocean-going rainbow trout. They are highly prized for their light pink flesh, tender flake, and rich, slightly sweet flavor.
Spines and Heads Ideal for making deeply flavorful broths and stocks, salmon spines and heads are rich in collagen, healthy fats, and remaining meat. Simmer slowly with aromatics for a nourishing base for soups, chowders, ramen, or seafood stews. |
