Exciting Collaborations
Mostly, I’m wondering how in the heck it’s already the middle of June. How does time feel slow during certain seasons and fast during others?
I’ve come to measure summer not by the calendar, but by the crops. And lately the field has been sending some strong hints that July is nearly here. Cucumbers. Broccoli. Basil. Dill. Napa cabbage. Fennel. Some of my favorite crops of the season are beginning to arrive, and with them comes that feeling that summer is truly settling in.
One of the best parts of this time of year is watching the farm ingredients make their way into the hands of different chefs. The ingredients are the same, but each person sees something a little different in them and those ingredients becomes a reflection of a chef’s style and creativity. It brings me so much joy to taste the farm through their eyes.
July will be a particularly fun month in our event program. We’ll welcome four rotating chefs to Rainshadow—two for public dinners and two for private events—each bringing their own perspective to the season’s bounty.
July Events
July 18th – A culinary collaboration between Chef Carlos from Hawkeye & Huckleberry Lounge and Rainshadow Organics. Carlos is the real deal: he crop plans with us and features Rainshadow year round and especially strong in the summer. He makes commitments that he keeps and we love growing for him. We are so excited to have him and his staff out to put on a real show in the garden.
July 25th – A garden dinner cheffed by Wil Hansen of High Desert Catering. We had the opportunity to enjoy one of Wil’s intimate dinners in May and were blown away. Wildly talented, humble and kind, this event is the type that will nourish your soul.

We want you to be inspired and to live in health & gratitude. Here’s what’s feeding my stoke this month:
✨ Its been a stress filled few weeks for me. And my stress response is often skincare. I’ve been diving deep in AOS, OSEA and Evan Healy.
✨ Hood River U-Pick organic cherry season is upon us. Can’t stop, won’t stop. All things cherry. Especially these homemade cocktail cherries.
✨ I am loving these books right now: The Calamity Club, Yesteryear, After Amen. Take your pick. They are all gems.
