Its time to glean potatoes!!
Thanks to Central Oregon Locavore and the Oregon Youth Challenge High School, we dug all of our potatoes today! We are so stoked about the yield. Big beautiful potatoes.
As many of you know, we open our fields for gleaning on our Customer Appreciation day. This year it will be on October 24th, so save the date.
We don’t like leaving bare ground in our field, so I’ll be flipping this block into a hard red wheat this year.
So, now is the time if you’d like to come glean potatoes (and potatoes only).
Please come when our farm store is open so you can be directed out to the zone. This coming week is the time. (August 27-29). After that they’ll be tilled in.
Farm Store Hours
Thursday: 12-5
Friday 11-5
Saturday 9-3
Its a good time to sign up for the winter CSA!
Something about a cellar load of potatoes makes me feel particularly prepared for winter. There’s still a lot to come in, but our carrots and squash, cabbages and onions, garlic and daikon are all looking real fine. The first Siberian Kale is going in the ground next week.
August will make a farmer dream of winter, but it’s extra validating that now is the actual time to be harvesting and planting for winter. I tell ya, without a crop plan, we would be bowled over by summer and arrive at winter empty handed. Lucky for you all, we got the crop plan and we’re on it! |
