Simple Beef Bulgogi

Ingredients

  • 1 lb thinly sliced beef (sirloin, ribeye, or pre-sliced bulgogi beef)

  • ¼ cup soy sauce

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar or honey

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp grated ginger (optional but nice)

  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar or mirin (optional)

  • 1 tbsp neutral oil (for cooking)

Optional add-ins: sliced onion, green onion, mushrooms
Optional topping: sesame seeds, green onions


Method

  1. Make the marinade
    In a bowl, mix soy sauce, sugar (or honey), sesame oil, garlic, and ginger.

  2. Marinate the beef
    Add beef to the bowl and toss to coat. Marinate 15–30 minutes (even 10 minutes works if you’re short on time).

  3. Cook
    Heat a pan over medium-high with a little oil. Add beef (and onions if using). Cook 3–5 minutes, stirring, until beef is cooked and slightly caramelized.

  4. Serve
    Finish with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve over rice, in lettuce cups, or with noodles.
