Where’s the fresh fish?
You may have noticed there isn’t any fresh fish available this week.
The fish are finally starting to run in better numbers, but this week’s catch is going somewhere even more important.
The Warm Springs community has been deeply affected by the wildfires, and Joe has chosen to donate his entire fresh catch to displaced tribal members and the firefighters working tirelessly to protect them.
If you thought you admired Joe before, you’ll admire him even more now.
On Sunday evening he texted me, excited that the fishing had picked up and to get ready for a big delivery. Then on Tuesday he reached out again. The fires had worsened, families were being displaced, and he had decided his catch belonged with his community. We couldn’t imagine a better place for it to go.
So while there isn’t any fresh fish this week, don’t worry—we still have plenty of frozen fish in stock.
More importantly, we’re holding the Warm Springs community, everyone displaced by these fires, and the firefighters in our thoughts. We’ll be ready when the next fresh catch arrives.
In the freezer this week:
- Sturgeon
- Chinook Salmon
- Steelhead
- Salmon Collars
- Salmon Spines & Head Packages
Chinook Salmon
Known as the king of Pacific salmon, Chinook is prized for its rich flavor, buttery texture, and high omega-3 content.
Steelhead
Often mistaken for salmon, steelhead are ocean-going rainbow trout. They are highly prized for their light pink flesh, tender flake, and rich, slightly sweet flavor.
Spines and Heads Ideal for making deeply flavorful broths and stocks, salmon spines and heads are rich in collagen, healthy fats, and remaining meat. Simmer slowly with aromatics for a nourishing base for soups, chowders, ramen, or seafood stews. |
